Meet our Editors

Pam Daniel
Pam Daniel is editorial director of the Gulfshore Media division of Curtco Media, and during her 20-year tenure the division’s various titles have collected dozens of awards for editorial excellence from both state and national magazine associations. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Duke University, Pam has two master’s degrees—in humanities and counseling—and says both come in handy in working with writers and artists. Pam has also won a number of writing awards from the Florida Magazine Association. She’s a member of the YMCA Foundation Board and a former president of The Education Foundation. [email Pam]

Kay Kipling
Kay Kipling is executive editor of Sarasota Magazine, where she also acts as arts editor and edits the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall program book. She may have seen more plays than anyone else in Sarasota, since for more than 20 years she has written theater reviews for a number of publications, including the Longboat Observer and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. She is a longtime member of the American Theatre Critics Association and her reviews now appear on our Web site. Her annual Theater Awards, which appear in our Summer issue, are a must-attend event for the city’s ever-growing theatrical community. [email Kay]

Susan Burns
Susan Burns is the founding editor of Biz941 (formerly Sarasota/Manatee BUSINESS), an award-winning monthly business-to-business magazine. A New College of Florida graduate, she did graduate work at the University of Florida and the University of Pennsylvania. She started her career as a daily newspaper reporter for the Bradenton Herald and a writer and editor for SARASOTA magazine. She’s won many regional, state and national awards for feature writing. Bob Plunket
Senior editor Robert Plunket is the author of My Search for Warren Harding and Love Junkie and was recently called one of the country’s best comic novelists by the Washington Post. He’s also contributed to such national publications as the New York Times and The Atlantic Monthly and has appeared in films, including Martin Scorsese‘s After Hours. His monthly Mr. Chatterbox column is a community favorite, and he recently started doing weekly online versions—including video—as well. Bob also blogs about open houses in Real Estate Junkie and writes the “Day in the Life” series for the magazine. But he says he’ll be most remembered as organizer of Sarasota’s annual Pug Parade—“one of the top pug events in the United States!” [email Bob]

Ilene Denton
Ilene Denton, managing editor, joined Clubhouse magazine, the predecessor to Sarasota, for its premiere issue in 1979. She describes herself as “almost a native” and a proud graduate of Riverview High School. She left the publishing world for a 10-year stint as marketing and development director at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, and then for three years as marketing director at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. She returned to Sarasota in 2003 and since then, as editor of the Luxury Home section of the magazine, has traipsed through almost every lavish home in town. An Internet junkie, she also edits our new e-newsletter, the Sarasota Insider. [email Ilene]

Hannah Wallace
Associate editor Hannah Wallace is a born-and-raised Southwest Florida native, having grown up in Whitfield Estates with her theatrical parents, both longtime Asolo employees. Living outside Sarasota just long enough to get her English degree from Stetson University in 2001, Hannah then returned home and worked as an editor and writer for several local publications, including the Sarasota Herald-Tribune and the now-defunct InParadise Magazine, before coming to Sarasota in 2005. In addition to her regular contributions to Sarasota and Biz941 magazines, Hannah writes a sarasotamagazine.com blog, GenXtra, in which she shares her perspective as a 20-something in Sarasota’s social, arts and sports scenes. Megan McDonald
Copy editor Megan McDonald is a Sarasota transplant, having recently moved here from Winter Park, FL, where she grew up. A magazine lover since she was a little girl, Megan—who received her bachelor’s degree in English and creative writing from Stetson University in 2005—joined Sarasota and Biz941 in 2006. In addition to her copy editing duties, she also writes two departments for Biz941 and coordinates its YPG newsletter, compiles Sarasota’s online shopping and events calendars, and helps put together the magazines’ Web-only content. She’s looking forward to getting more involved with the city and its numerous organizations. [email Megan]
