| LOCAL PUBLICATIONS WIN TOP FLORIDA MAGAZINE ASSOCIATION AWARDS |

The Florida Magazine Association is the largest state magazine association in the nation, representing approximately 236 magazines. Each year the FMA, with its 28 distinguished judges, recognizes outstanding magazines in various categories at the Charlie Awards. This year the awards were held August 26, 2006, at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.
For the second year in a row, the editorial staff of SARASOTA Magazine, led by editorial director Pam Daniel, won first place (the Charlie) for Best Written Magazine. Also for the second year in a row, SARASOTA took home a Charlie in the category of Best Cover for On the Beach, December, 2005, illustrated by Charles Lee and directed by Jeanette Bakowski.
SARASOTA also won Charlie awards in the categories of Best Humor for “We’re Not Getting Older; We’re Getting Better” by Robert Plunket (AKA “Mr. Chatterbox); Best Single, Original Black and White Photograph for Steven Katzman’s “Picture Man” and Best In-Depth Reporting for “Off Our Shores” by Craig Pittman. SARASOTA won Bronze Awards in the category of Best Editorial/Commentary/Opinion for “Where Has All the Vision Gone?” by Richard Storm and in the category of Best Overall Magazine for general excellence.
Only in its third year, Sarasota/Manatee BUSINESS has been
recognized since its beginning in 2004 with FMA awards. This year it took home a
bronze in the category of Best In-Depth
Reporting for “The Buchanan Franchise” by Susan Burns, editor of the
magazine.
