Parental warning: Reefer Madness the Musical opens tonight at Venice Theatre. Based on the cult 1936 film, the musical comedy takes a skewered look at what happens when clean-cut kids fall prey to…marijuana. |

- The Asolo mainstage season is suddenly in full swing, and the early buzz is good. Our own Kay Kipling says the frothy production of Moliere's The Imaginary Invalid “is probably just the cure for what ails you,” while the intriguing Inventing Van Gogh just opened, and over at the FSU Conservatory, Blur, a new comedy by playwright Melanie Marnich, is on the boards.
- What a topical season for the Ringling College Library Association Town Hall lecture series, which kicks off Wednesday at the Van Wezel with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, followed by Newt Gingrich Jan. 28, historian Doris Kearns Goodwin Feb. 9 and Titanic discoverer Dr. Robert Ballard March 3. For ticket information, call (941) 925-1343.
- And if you haven't seen the acrobatic dance troupe, Pilobolus www.pilobolus.com, you've missed a completely original, inventive and awe-inspiring performing arts experience. Go see them at the Van Wezel Monday night!
