This week, we're looking back at famous clown Emmett Kelly, who created the character "Weary Willie" based on the look of hobos during the Great Depression. Kelly asked friend and photographer Joseph Janney Steinmetz to snap this photo while they were in Sarasota for Kelly to use as a Christmas card.

A little-known detail about this photoshoot is that Lois Foley Steinmetz, Joseph's wife and a circus photographer in her own right, sat behind the camera and jumped into view between shots to fluff the bubbles with an egg-beater.
