One Great Room

By staff June 1, 2008

Kelly and Cory Schott’s new breakfast room is a sumptuous feast for the senses, designed by Cheri Pachter-Neary to reflect a cornucopia of 100 exotic fruit trees and three kitchen herb gardens right outside the back door. The Schotts’ newly remodeled Whitfield Estates home, chosen for the winter 2008 Boys & Girls Club Designer Showhouse, is a compilation of the talents of many local ASID designers, but the breakfast room speaks to Kelly’s passion for growing edible plants.

“The idea is to sit down with the client to find out what they’re interested in and get a feel for their lifestyle,” Pachter-Neary, of Embellishments Interior Design, explains. “Kelly spends so much time in the garden that I wanted to bring the outside in.”

“This is our everyday dining room, not just a breakfast room, so it also had to hold up to three young children,” Schott adds, especially pleased with a custom cupboard outfitted as a do-it-yourself breakfast center for the kids.  “It holds everything they need in a tucked-away corner—their cereal, frozen waffles, cream cheese, even snacks. Now I never come downstairs to a messy kitchen.”
