Private Playground

Modern architecture is not known for playful bursts of color, but this lavish home on Siesta Key is a happy exception. Designed by well-known Sarasota architect Guy Peterson, it uses color-coded cubes of green, blue and yellow to define the space according to use—family areas, the children’s zone, and for the adults, elegant interiors perfect for entertaining.

Located behind the gates of the exclusive Sanderling Club, the home sits on an acre-and-a-half of prime beachfront, with a pool and lush tropical landscaping. There are five bedrooms, 5 1/2 baths, and 7,652 square feet of living area. And just a short stroll away is the Sanderling Beach Club, designed by another architectural notable, Paul Rudolph.

The feeling is that of a private family resort, with a pool large enough for water polo, a water slide and an oversized Jacuzzi. There are also a volleyball court and a fire pit perfect for toasting s’mores as the sun goes down. Sarasota’s most perfect beach cottage? Maybe. At $14.5 million, it certainly is its most expensive
