While most of us are still sleeping, Hayley Wielgus is hard at work. Wielgus, 27—who arrived in Sarasota last June by way of Texas —gets up at 2 a.m. and is on air at 5 a.m. as part of ABC7’s morning newscast, now starting a half-hour earlier than before. The self-described “fitness fanatic” and sports enthusiast, who says her favorite beats are business and people profiles, has big plans for the show. “I want to make it new, fresh, more-up-to-date and interactive,” she explains. “A year from now, I want it to look completely different.”
