Amy Miller’s sculptural creations may look sweet and innocent, but in their size (sometimes eight feet high), construction demands ("You have to be part engineer") and meaning ("My work asks questions about how we find our identities in our ceremonies and life passages"), they’re quite complex. Miller, who recently won the John Ringling Towers Fund grant for visual artists, moved back home to Florida after years spent in Savannah, New York and Atlanta honing her craft. Now 37, she’s preparing a solo exhibition in May at the Florida Museum for Women Artists in Deland. "I need a deadline to be motivated," she admits.
