Venice Art Center. On view through May 4 here is a Photography & Digital Arts show; then coming up May 9-25, the South County Public Schools show. Info: 485-7136.

Art Center Sarasota. Continuing here through May 12 is the North Sarasota County Schools Exhibition, displaying work by students from elementary through high school. Opening May 24: The Sum of Its Parts, including exhibitions of photography by Chris Jordan, works by Wojtek Sawa, a Mindy Solomon curated exhibition, an ACS & Sarasota Audubon Collaboration, and an open, all-media juried exhibition. Longboat Key Center for the Arts. An exhibition of works by artists painting in Myakka River State Park and its environs continues here through May 24. Info: 383-2345.

Selby Gallery. Selby Gallery presents its annual community exhibition, in this case showcasing the statewide Florida Artist Group, through a juried show, symposium and workshops. May 11 through June 1. 359-7563.

Ringling Museum of Art. On view May 15 through Sept. 17 in the Circus Museum’s Tibbals Learning Center: A Horse & A Ring, an exhibition centered on how equestrian acts fit into the traditions of the American circus. Continuing through June 3 in the Searing Wing, Peter Paul Rubens: Impressions of a Master, featuring more than 75 engravings after compositions by Rubens; plus an installation of works by Sanford Biggers inspired by the Underground Railroad, through Oct. 14. 359-5700.

Miscellaneous

Food and Wine on Pine. Twenty-five local restaurants, a variety of wines and beers, an art show, musical performances and people portraying various characters from Anna Maria history highlight this celebration, which is set for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 5 on historic Pine Avenue on Anna Maria. Sarasota Orchestra Great Escapes. La Bamba heralds the Latin rhythms of this Great Escapes season finale, with performances May 2-5 at Holley Hall. 953-3434.

The Gershwins Remembered. Soprano Mary Elizabeth Williams, tenor Chauncy Parker and bass-baritone Kenneth Nichols team with pianist Bob Constantino to present this evening of the music and lyrics of the fabulous Gershwin brothers, in an Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota event. Hamlet, Prince of Cuba. A new version of Shakespeare’s tragedy, set in Cuba and starring Frankie Alvarez as the troubled prince. Continuing through May 6 at Asolo Repertory Theatre. 351-8000.

The Full Monty. Six down-on-their-luck steelworkers bare all to boost their incomes and their self-esteems in this musical based on the 1997 film, continuing through May 6 (possible extension through May 13) at the Players Theatre. Info: 365-2494.

The Miser. Moliere’s comedy about a tyrannical moneylender and the children who plot to escape his grasp continues through May 6 at Venice Theatre’s Stage II. 488-1115.

Fallen Angels. Peter Amster directs this seldom-seen Noel Coward romp about two married women friends who share an old flame in common. It’s continuing onstage through May 13 at Asolo Rep. Info: 351-8000.

Blackbird, the Josephine Baker Story. Dhakeria Cunningham stars as legendary cabaret singer—and World War II heroine—Josephine Baker, through May 13 in a Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe offering. Info: 366-1505.

Jericho. A widow and a survivor meet in post-9/11 New York in this new play by Jack Canfora, onstage through June 3 at Florida Studio Theatre’s Keating Theatre. Info: 366-9000.

Florida Studio Theatre’s reel music, through June 17. 366-9000.Reel Music. The music of beloved movies including The Wizard of Oz, Casablanca and Top Gun is saluted in this revue, playing through June 17 in FST’s Goldstein Cabaret. 366-9000.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. You may remember Howard Keel and Jane Powell, along with Michael Kidd’s exuberant choreography, in the MGM film that sparked this Western-flavored musical, now onstage May 3-21 to close out the Manatee Players season. 748-5875.

Driving Miss Daisy. Alfred Uhry’s prize-winning story of a Southern woman and her chauffeur-friend takes another spin around the block, May 8-20 on Venice Theatre’s mainstage. 488-1115.

Sarasota Festival of New Plays. Florida Studio Theatre’s annual fest this year includes not only the play reading series featuring three new works (May 7, 14 and 21) and the Under Six and Young Playwrights Festival (ongoing through May 12) but Robert Pinsky’s Favorite Poem Project, with the former United States Poet Laureate emceeing an event (in partnership with Bookstore 1) at the Keating Theatre where Sarasotans will read aloud their favorite poems, at 2 p.m. May 11. Fanny Brice, America’s Funny Girl. A new look at the actress-singer-comedienne many of us associate with Barbra Streisand—this one concentrating more on her relationship with showman Billy Rose than gambler Nick Arnstein. Onstage May 20 through June 17 in an Asolo Rep production. 351-8000.
