Tommy Bahama Will Reopen at the End of September

The upscale chain closed after Hurricanes Helene and Milton. This month, it will reopen in the former Shore location on St. Armands Circle, with a retail store downstairs—just like the old days.

Tommy Bahama's casual upscale St. Armands Circle restaurant opened in 1996 and was a visitor and local favorite for decades, thanks in large part to killer cocktails and the crispiest, plumpest coconut shrimp around.

But last year, after Hurricane Helene flooded the circle, damage to Tommy Bahama's original location was so extensive that the restaurant shuttered so it could evaluate its next move.

At the end of this month, Tommy Bahama will open—this time in the former California-casual space once occupied by Shore. (Shore fans, don't fret: There's still a location on the north end of Longboat Key.)

Longtime Sarasotans may remember the days when Tommy Bahama's restaurant and retail store shared the same address, with the shop on the first floor and the restaurant upstairs. Now they will again, with  the Tommy Bahama shop on the bottom floor and those coconut shrimp, scallop sliders and Parmesan-crusted Sanibel chicken served above. The company will also maintain its other retail location around the block, which will primarily sell home décor and beach gear.

“We lost some vital energy when we separated our retail and restaurant about 15 years ago," Tommy Bahama CEO Doug Wood said in a press release. "Then we recently lost the restaurant to hurricanes and faced a decision. We’ve been looking for an opportunity to combine the two again, and jumped when this space became available. We’re so passionate about our history at St. Armands and recognize what a special place this is in the Sarasota community.”

The 5,000-square-foot restaurant can seat 200 people and will maintain Shore's indoor-meets-outdoor dining room flow, and contrary to the former Tommy Bahama spot's rustic bungalow style, will have a clean, beachy ambience. It's set to open at the end of September. Stay tuned.

Tommy Bahama's restaurant and retail stores will be located at 465 John Ringling Blvd., St. Armands Circle, Sarasota. For more information, click here.
