One of Cutting Loose hairstylist Niki Baldun’s (or Niki B., as she prefers) favorite quotes is a classic by the iconic Coco Chanel: “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.”  She certainly is following this invaluable advice. Her view on style is as it should be – it evolves as an entire look from head to toe, with the small details in their proper place–whether a delicate necklace or a pop of color at the lip. Niki’s a downtown girl with her eye on what’s new and next, which she’ll incorporate her own playful twist to individualized it to her style.

In this installment of “What I Wear to Work,” I chat with this Sarasota native and first-generation Polish-American, who’s also known as the First Lady to her life partner, Cutting Loose on Main owner Taelor Scheuer.

About Me:   My motto is K.I.S.S.: Keep It Simple Sexy.  I love to feel comfortable yet sexy, and I believe you can do both at the same time. My outfit will often dictate my hairstyle, which is crucial to completing my look. For example, I can wear my hair smooth and sleek for a more clean and modern look, or curly and textured for something more glamorous. Your hair is an accessory you never take off.

I get fashion inspiration from my travels, and I love shopping in Poland when I’m there. I keep my eye open for unique pieces that you can’t find here. And as artistic director of Cutting Loose, I’m privileged to travel to New York, Miami and L.A. hair and fashion shows, where we get the first look at what’s ahead for the season. Last year in New York everything was Great Gatsby themed, so you can bet this summer and fall will have a lot of influence from the 1920s.

“I love the French cutting system because I can give any woman a haircut that can be worn at least four different ways with any outfit in your wardrobe. And no one wants dull hair when wearing great shoes.”
