As I feared, two days later, and Halloween is a distant, freakish memory, immediately jarring against our preparations for cozy, hearty Thanksgiving. (Thanksgiving, on the other hand, is something you can linger on, because it flows so nicely into the warm fuzzies of the December holidays.) Still, I’m going to give one last nod to a week’s worth of preparations before tossing the pumpkins in the compost and readying the turkey frier.

Oh yeah, and I felt compelled to bring the Halloween spirit to hockey practice Friday night, too…

Decent party turnout Saturday, good fun crowd, great Halloweeny atmosphere. (I can’t help it; I love costume parties.) Unfortunately, I couldn’t sort out my new camera, so I don’t have much photographic evidence of the party itself, although when you take a gander at Krazy Kevin’s pro wrestler Ric Flair costume (below), well, that might be more than enough visuals.

I always do feel a sort of letdown after hosting a party, though. Like that post-Christmas lull, suddenly shifting focus on the past instead of looking forward to something. I’ll admit that this calm week is nice, though–dinners at home, more cleaning than making a mess, settling back to even keel. We’ll see how long we can keep this up, but for now, it’s nice to be a little less overbooked, a little more relaxed, moving from a manic holiday to one of contentment. "Happiness is equilibrium," says the man. "Shift your weight."
