Sarasota Principal Named 'Boundary Crosser' Award Winner

Barbara Shirley, the principal of Sarasota's Alta Vista Elementary School since 2007, will be presented with SCOPE's Boundary Crosser Award during a dinner held 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Michael's on East, 1212 S. East Ave., Sarasota. Shirley has been a resident and community activist in Sarasota County since 1990. In 2014, she was honored as the Florida Principal of the Year by the Florida Department of Education. SCOPE (Sarasota County Openly Plans for Excellence) is a nonprofit that analyzes local data, compiles reports on important topics and presents its findings to study groups and at workshops. Tickets to the SCOPE dinner are $45.
