At its meeting this Tuesday, the Sarasota County School Board voted 5-0 to appoint Dr. Allison Foster, the district’s executive director of human resources and labor relations, as interim superintendent.

Foster replaces Chris Renouf, the district's acting superintendent and chief academic officer, in the role. Renouf, for his part, was named acting superintendent after Dr. Brennan Asplen was voted out in December. Foster will serve as interim superintendent until the school board conducts a search and appoints a new superintendent.

Foster has spent her 26-year career in education working for Sarasota County Schools. Prior to assuming her position as executive director of human resources and labor relations, she was the principal of Phillippi Shores Elementary School. She was also the assistant principal of Toledo Blade Elementary School and Gulf Gate Elementary School, a gifted education teacher at Ashton Elementary School, and a mathematics teacher at Laurel Nokomis School.

In a statement, Foster said, "As a lifelong resident of Sarasota, I have been involved in the school system in nearly every capacity: as a student, teacher, administrator and parent. I look forward to working collaboratively with our school board members, teachers, staff, families, and community partners to further the success of our students. We greatly appreciate the community’s continued support of our students, teachers, and staff members.”
