"New College... What's Next?" is the subject of the next panel discussion hosted by the Sarasota Tiger Bay Club. The lunchtime forum will feature a professor at the college, a former board member, the parent of a student and Sarasota Magazine contributing editor Elizabeth Djinis.

Djinis has covered the controversy over Gov. Ron DeSantis' recent appointments to the college's Board of Trustees, a slate of new members who have moved to replace the college's president with a politically connected former state education commissioner, eliminate the school's Office of Outreach and Inclusive Excellence and overhaul the school's curriculum. Conservative activist and new board member Christopher Rufo has called the moves a "takeover."

In addition to Djinis, the Tiger Bay panel will include Tracy Fero, the parent of a current New College student; Charlie Lenger, a New College alum and former board member; and Frank Alcock, the director of academic initiatives and special projects and a professor of political science and environmental studies at the school.

The discussion will take place Thursday, April 6, at Michael's on East, 1212 S. East Ave., Sarasota. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the program will run from noon to 1:15 p.m. Tickets are $34 for Tiger Bay members and $39 for guests. For more info, click here.
