Thanks to an Incoming Winter Storm, We're in For a Wet, Windy Weekend
Get out those umbrellas and rain boots: it's gonna be a wet, windy weekend. Heavy rain and high winds are likely to put a damper on holiday plans for locals and visitors alike starting today and continuing into Sunday.
Thanks to an area of low pressure developing in the Gulf, the Suncoast can expect to see severe thunderstorms this weekend, as well as wind gusts of up to 42 mph and an increased risk for isolated tornadoes.
Marine warnings are currently in effect for the Gulf of Mexico , with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reporting "significant wave height" and the National Weather Service predicting wind gusts of up to 40 knots through the weekend. Coastal flooding could occur Sunday morning, with waters as high as 2-3 feet. If you have a boat, keep it in its port until the weather has improved. All residents should make sure to have a way to access the forecast and receive severe weather alerts.
The storm will turn to the north on Sunday and will leave a drop in humidity and temperatures in its wake, with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s on Monday and Tuesday.
