Art

Ringling School's Selby Gallery continues its "Multiple Visions" series dealing with the history of art making in Sarasota, June 28-July 26 (opening reception 5-7 p.m. June 28). This show (curated by longtime Ringling instructor Moe Mitchell) centers on the work of Ringling faculty members over the school's 70-year history, including Richard Oxley, Frank Rampolla, Leslie Uguccione, Peter Roberts, Robert McFarland and the legendary George "Pappy" Saunders. Music

It's June once more, and those Sarasota Music Festival performers are tuning up over at the Florida West Coast Symphony's Holley Hall and the Sarasota Opera House. They include returning favorites Joseph Silverstein, Timothy Eddy, Ronald Leonard, Robert Levin, Susan Starr, Carol Wincenc, Neil Black and Robert Vernon, among other faculty members; and composers featured range from Debussy to Mozart to Beethoven to Dvorak to Schumann. Festivals

The Suncoast Offshore Grand Prix is "ready to rumble" back onto our shores, June 29-July 7. A kickoff party is set for June 29, and the fest also includes a golf tournament and fishing tournament, a bed race and parade of boats on July 4, powerboats in the Van Wezel parking lot July 5, 6 and 7, and, of course, the Grand Prix itself, roaring off at 11 a.m. July 7 in the Gulf. Parties

Every year at this time the single ladies of the town get a little restive as they make plans (and gather funds) to bid on the eligible males taking part in the Bachelor Ball & Auction to benefit United Cerebral Palsy. Lots of tantalizing date packages are offered, and the evening is always filled with lots of, ummm-energy. The date for the auction is June 15, and cocktails start at 7 p.m. at Michael's On East, followed by all that bidding. For more info call 957-3599.

"An American Anthem: 300 Years of Painting from the Butler Institute of Art," presents a survey of American art from Colonial portraiture to 20th-century modernism, with stops featuring Hudson River landscapes and Western vistas along the way. Tim Dorsey Book Signing. Dorsey (a frequent SARASOTA contributor) is at it again in his latest ride on the wild side of Florida, "Triggerfish Twist." As the author admits, in his first book, "Florida Roadkill," he killed off way too many people. National Youth Orchestra Festival.
