Music

For 39 years now the Sarasota Music Festival has been enlivening our summers with chamber music and hearty student/faculty exchanges; this year's concerts include Artist Showcase events at Holley Hall, June 5, 12 and 19; free student concerts, also at Holley, June 8, 12, 14, 19 and 20; and performances at the Opera House June 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21. Among the plethora of works on the program: Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4, Haydn's Sinfonia Concertante, Op. 84, Brahms' Quartet in C, Op. 60, and Mozart's Concerto No. 4 in Eb, along with pieces from Rossini, Elgar, Bach, Boccherini, and Ravel. Art

If you haven't yet stopped by the Museum of Asian Art to see Focus: Asia-An Exhibition of Important 19th-Century Photographs, you still have a chance throughout the summer. The works of early European photographers including Captain Linnaeus Tripe, Felice Beato, Charles Scowen and Milton Miller are on display, representing the emergence of that new art form and revelations from the worlds of Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam and China, previously unseen by Western eyes.
