We've Got Games

By staff December 1, 2003

Not surprisingly, Sarasota is renowned for its water sports. From windsurfing to sailboating, kayaks and canoes, our bays, rivers and inlets allow you to explore our beautiful city from beyond its shores. Along the way, you'll encounter dolphins, manatees and exotic birds in their natural habitats.

Itching for something "deeper?" Your ticket to ocean adventure is as close as the bayfront marina, where experienced salty dogs can transport you to tarpon or mahi heaven. Or rent a boat and sail off on your own for an afternoon.

But we have so much to offer inland as well. Our golf courses are among the most pristine in the state, offering some of the last open spaces for Florida's wildlife, including the Florida panther and American eagle. Several have won environmental awards, and many have undergone renovations to enhance their aesthetic appeal and make them even more challenging to players. All carry designer names like Ted McAnlis, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player.

If tennis is your game, bring your sunscreen-indoor courts are unnecessary in our temperate climate. But all that fresh air helps fuel IMG Academies, the world's largest sports center and training ground of Andre Agassi and the Williams sisters. Try your hand at any of the private clubs or take advantage of the public courts around the beaches as well.

We can also boast Major League baseball spring training, minor league AAA baseball, and major league sports like hockey and football. Just an hour north, the championship Tampa Bay Buccaneers are gearing up for another award-winning season.
