(Wild )Turkey Hangover

Kicking off the holiday season with a bird and a bottle. Well, several bottles.

Four-day weekends are usually lost on me, but my Thanksgiving dance card was surprisingly full. Here’s a brief rundown, as well as a shout out to all the folks who made me thankful this Thanksgiving.

Thursday evening, I tagged along with my parents and gorged myself at a brilliantly cozy gathering of Asolo vets. And though when I got home I could hardly move for fullness, I managed to stroll up the street to partake in Sarasota-Manatee Business editor Susan Burns’ magical firepit-lighted post-Thanksgiving backyard party (cheers to whoever brought the bottle of Wild Turkey—that walk home sure was an adventure). That party inspired a somewhat impromptu but thoroughly relaxing brunch on Friday, complete with lox, quiche and, of course, mimosas and bloody Marys. Black Friday brunches should be a national tradition.

Friday evening took me up to Bradenton for dinner and a movie and billiards with old friends—and one new one: the super-friendly bartender at Tinks on S.R. 70. Saturday, too, was dinner with friends and a few pints of Guinness at Rasher Tierney’s on U.S. 41. Ten years ago, the same group of us once skipped school and met for breakfast at nearby Bradenton Donuts, before heading to G.T. Bray Park to play board games (what rebels we were). Now gathering annually at best, we spent the evening swapping tales of our grown-up lives and briefly reliving our high school donut days. Which, I guess, is exactly what holidays are for.

Here’s hoping everyone’s weekend was just as filling. Tune in later this week for chilling tales of my adventures in speed dating.
