Fashion Statement

By staff July 1, 2007

What are you wearing? A white-on-white fitted tank dress by Nicole Miller, white patent high-heeled BCBG peep-toe pumps, creamy pearls and a shell-embellished bag from my own line of accessories, Believe Fashions. It’s a line of accessories that you can buy at a show in an office or a restaurant. It’s like a moving boutique, so it’s very affordable.

What’s your fashion philosophy? Keep it simple. And let it be comfortable.

Who influences your choices? I have three sisters. We all love fashion, and I often find myself thinking about what my sisters would say about an outfit.

What’s the biggest mistake people make today? Overdoing it. If I’m going to wear a colorful dress, I’ll keep everything else neutral. If I have a beaded dress, I’ll keep the accessories simple.

What advice do you give your daughters about fashion? Just the basic rules: Pay attention to proportion. If you’re wearing something snug on top, wear something loose on the bottom, or the other way around. And keep it classy.

What are your favorite places to shop in town? I’m not a shopper, but recently I’ve found really cute dresses at Willow 506. And I love Macy’s shoes—great prices, great selection.

How do you stay in such good shape? I go to the gym and I run about five miles, four or five times a week.

Where do you go when you go out in Sarasota? I love the sushi place on Hillview, Pacific Rim. Our whole family likes The Melting Pot. We like Pino’s for Italian. Our absolute favorite restaurant is the Colony.

What do you like best about Sarasota? The climate. The heat doesn’t bother me at all. I love it here.
