Fashion Statement—Micki Gager
What are you wearing?
A Dior-inspired corseted evening gown by Carol Lin, gold sequined sandals by Nina, a rope of Biwa pearls and amethyst earrings.
How would you describe your style?
A little quirky, a little Diane Keaton. As I’ve gotten older, I like more classic looks. A St. John knit always looks great. Since we’ve moved to Florida, I love Tommy Bahama’s skirts and dresses—classic shapes in beautiful colors and lightweight fabrics.
Do you have any favorite products?
I love all the self-tanners that have SPF 20. Nivea, Neutrogena and Jergen’s all make really good moisturizers that protect and provide a little color. I also use Olay Regenerist eye-lifting serum and I think it’s working. One of my friends from England came to visit and asked if I’d had an eye lift!
How about hair and make-up?
I use Clinique’s self-tanner for the face and a little blusher for color. I love the John Frieda products geared for blondes. I also have a great hairdresser—Debbie at Polished in Osprey—who doesn’t give me an old-lady haircut.
How do you stay in shape?
That’s just genetics. I come from a whole family of beanpoles, but now, because I’m blonde and small-boned, I work out with weights to maintain bone mass.
What’s the best gift you ever got?
These pearls. My husband gave them to me in Japan; they came from Lake Biwa, which is now polluted so they can’t get the pearls anymore. Last time I was in Japan, the store wanted to buy them back from me. But I wasn’t selling.
What do you like best about Sarasota?
Definitely the arts. We don’t play golf but we’ve always loved the theater and a nightlife, so Sarasota was a wonderful place to retire.
