Good Deal - October 2009

By ericg October 1, 2009

The Place: Broadway Bar, 1001 Cocoanut Ave. (at 10th Street), Sarasota; open seven days, hours vary; (941) 953-4343.

The Fare: Thin crust pizza rules, but sandwiches and baked pasta dishes are popular, too.

The Drill: This longtime fave recently reopened in a new location after a hiatus that had fans of its pizza crying in their beer somewhere else.

The Bottom Line: For $10.45 plus whatever you choose to drink, you can split a medium cheese plus one topping or a quattro formaggio pizza and go on your way well satisfied. The thin crust here does an admirable job of supporting generous portions of cheese and toppings without folding and spilling the goodies at an inopportune moment. We like to partake at the bar, where regulars old and new schmooze and hold forth on topics of the day, but there are tables inside and on the terrace, too. Terrace? Yes, well, this isn’t the crusty old Broadway Bar of legend, but the pizza survived the move, and that’s what counts.
