A lot of people in Sarasota don’t know much about El Conquistador, but in Bradenton it’s long been considered one of the premier neighborhoods for professionals and long-time residents. Its location, tucked away in the southwest part of the town along a beautiful stretch of bayfront, makes it a great alternative to the Meadows, Palmer Ranch and Lakewood Ranch.

What also gives it cachet is its connection with IMG, the world-famous sports training academy that has produced so many top golfers and tennis stars – Andre Agassi, Monica Seles, just to name a few. The golf course that snakes through the development is the one the sports greats train on and there are opportunities for residents to use the extensive IMG facilities or just bask in the glory of all that world-class sports activity.

Real estate in El Conquistador comes in all sorts of different price ranges and styles. At the high end there is Legends Bay, a brand new, still-being-constructed enclave of gated homes (one million plus) and townhouses (in the $500,000s). These are elaborate Spanish Med type homes with all the bells and whistles, and many occupy prime lots with beautiful views of Sarasota Bay. One home, owned by golfer Paula Creamer – the Pink Panther - will be the Symphony Showcase Home this coming February. For more info about Legends Bay call Miki Riehle at 941-953-4500 ext. 221 or go to legendsbay.com.

El Conquistador also has great deals in condos at the moment, and if you’re looking for something nice in an upscale setting just 15 minutes from downtown, here are some places you need to check out.

These midrise buildings right on the golf course are incredible bargains at the moment. Some of the two- bedroom, two-bath units (almost 1,200 square feet) are currently priced under $100,000. But they don’t take pets, so let’s move right along . . .

I love this second-floor unit in Valencia. It’s a real three-bedroom, which is hard to find. It is also an end unit, which means more windows and privacy. It also has its own stairway. The kitchen has a window. There’s an entrance hall. The lanai is enclosed and has a beautiful view of the golf course. All these extras add up to bright sunny condo with a lot of room. – 1,700 square feet. It’s priced at $160,000. Call Markey Realty at 941-753-1620. (There are several other three-bedroom units on the market starting in the $130,000s and there are also two-bedroom units from $120,000. I’d personally spring for the larger units. They’re much nicer.)

And finally, take a look in Wild Oak Bay, which has beautiful, mature landscaping and has a great selection of villas, townhouse, and mid-rise units. If you can find one facing the bay you’ll be looking at some of the best views in the area at any price. Here’s the view from one of the three bedroom, two bath units on Mourning Dove Drive. There are several available, starting at around $325,000.
