Jury Duty

Tony Award-winning director Frank Galati (The Grapes of Wrath) helms the Asolo Rep’s production of Reginald Rose’s Twelve Angry Men, the classic play about a jury struggling to decide a young defendant’s fate. Jud Williford plays Juror No. 8, the role made memorable by Henry Fonda in the 1957 movie. Onstage Jan. 14 through March 26 at the Mertz Theatre. 351-8000 or asolorep.org.

This Girl’s On Stage

Do you know the way to the Van Wezel? That’s where Grammy-winning songstress Dionne Warwick will entertain at 8 p.m. Jan. 23; expect to hear familiar tunes like Do You Know the Way to San Jose?, Walk On By and This Girl’s In Love. The 10th annual Van Wezel Foundation Gala precedes Warwick’s concert starting at 5 p.m.; call 366-5578 for gala tickets or 953-3368 for concert-only tickets. Or go to vanwezel.org.

Mamet Moments

Playwright David Mamet’s latest, Race, takes to the mainstage of Florida Studio Theatre Jan. 26 through March 20. It’s the story of a wealthy white man charged with a crime against a young black woman, and the three attorneys, two black and one white, involved in the case. Of course, with Mamet at work race isn’t the only issue; there’s plenty of sex and lies to go around, too. 366-9000 or floridastudiotheatre.org.

Jazz It Up

The 31st Annual Sarasota Jazz Festival swings Sarasota Jan. 30 through Feb. 5, with appearances by the Bill Allred Group, the Tierney Sutton Band, Katt and Stan Hefner, our own Dick Hyman (with Nicki Parrott and Cynthia Sayer) and an anniversary celebration of the late, great Stan Kenton. Then guitarist-vocalist John Pizzarelli ties it all up with a bow in a concert with the Sarasota Orchestra Feb. 5 at Van Wezel. 366-1552
