Artist's Pad

By Bob Plunket March 1, 2011

It’s a rare house that can be both formal and artistic, but this Indian Beach gem bridges both worlds perfectly.

It’s still glowing with the personality of its late owner, Letty Browdy, Sarasota artist and jewelry designer. Letty lived here with her husband, Alvin, for more than 20 years. In her sunny studio (which a new owner would probably use as a third bedroom), she created bold, exotic jewelry for Jacobson’s and Elizabeth Arden.

A rethought and renovated Florida ranch, the home is designed so that its living spaces—a large living room, family room and formal dining room—all combine to form an expansive entertaining area. The kitchen and baths have been recently updated to stylish standards. The family room has a view of the bay, and, across the pool, a wall of vegetation soars several stories high, part of the picturesque jungle that surrounds the old Gayed estate next door.

It’s a smallish house—three bedrooms, two baths—but there is a hint of Palm Beach glamour to it. Fine furniture and an art collection would be right at home here, and the location just south of the Ringling Museum makes it the perfect place to find your own artistic inspiration.

720 Indian Beach Circle. $549,900. Listed by David Jennings of Coldwell Banker. (941) 388-3966.
