Movie Madness

You probably won’t need 3-D goggles at the Sarasota Film Festival, April 7-17, but don’t count anything out, as programming was still being set at press time. We do know that actor Christopher Plummer is the Cinema Master Award honoree (see page 80) and that the sultry Cinema Tropicale party at Sarasota Yacht Club will return. Call 364-9514 or go to sarasotafilmfestival.com.

Wine Me Up

What will be your new favorite wine at the 21st annual Florida Winefest & Auction, April 28-May 1? There are plenty to discover, as the fest includes wine-maker dinners, a beach feast at Longboat Key Club & Resort, the brunch and charity auction at Polo Grill, and a Taste of Winefest on the closing day. Sip slowly. 952-1109 or floridawinefest.org.

Crazy Knights

The Van Wezel polishes off its official season with the first local tour of Tony-winning Monty Python’s Spamalot, a “ripoff” of the classic movie comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, about those Arthurian Round Tablers facing taunting Frenchmen and catapulted cows, April 20 and 21. Python fans will be in their glory. Tickets, 953-3368 or vanwezel.org.

String Fever

Sybarite5, a New York-based group of adventurous young string musicians founded by Sarasota native Louis Levitt, returns here with a Florida premiere (The Shuffle Effect) and a world premiere (a new Radiohead Remix, Weird Fishes). Concerts are at The HuB, April 29, and Holley Hall, April 30 and May 1. (800) 838-3006 or brownpapertickets.com/event154501.
