Vroom Vroom

Hear those big engines roar as the Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix Boat Race gets going July 3, with heats at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. (best viewing along Lido Beach). Comedy Tonight

Improv addicts can get their fix with Florida Studio Theatre’s Third Annual Sarasota Improv Fest, July 15 and 16 in the cozy Goldstein Cabaret. Improvisational troupes from around the country are joined by FST’s very own team; there are also improv workshops for those who want to give it a try themselves. 366-9000 or floridastudiotheatre.org.

In the Fold

The Banyan Theater Company presents Rajiv Joseph’s Animals Out of Paper, a funny/sad piece about experts in the art of origami (paper folding) who don’t do so well in the arts of loving and living. Directed by Jim Wise; featuring Luke Bartholomew, Barbara Sloan and Christopher Swan. July 21 through Aug. 7 at the Cook. 358-5330 or banyantheatercompany.com.

Made in China

Ringling College’s Selby Gallery takes a look at art from Asia with Hanging in the Balance: Ten Emerging Chinese Artists, on view Aug. 12 through Sept. 17. The show offers mostly video works on display, with some drawings, photos of installations and small three-dimensional objects by these up-and-coming artists. 359-7563.
