BRAIDS: Not Just For Little Girls Anymore

By Megan McDonald October 28, 2011

If you haven’t heard, I’m here to tell you that braids have made a comeback, and in a major way.  I kid you not.  How’d they get here?  Well, I suspect it was Jennifer Aniston’s headband braid on the red carpet for the Academy Awards a couple of years ago.

But these aren’t your seventh grade pigtails and you can push delete on that image of Pippi Longstocking you have playing inside your head.

These braids are versatile in every sense – they can truly be your day to black tie look. Easy breezy to care for, it’s a style that can last for days. And, no worries about keeping it spray put because a messy tease adds texture.

Here’s a quick video to learn the plaiting process with Colette Olson with d.cole hair design.  It’s faster than you think to pull off and Colette whips up a few variations, including my fave, the side fishtail.  LOVE!

Of course, the Internet is an endless source for plaiting inspiration and options – but to save you a little surf time, I’ve added a few pix here that caught my eye.

By the way, if you happen to be in NYC, John Barrett’s salon in Bergdorf Goodman opened a braid bar in June.  Yep. That’s how hot this trend is!

LOVE this look on Leona Lewis – it’s gorgeous 360°.

And here’s Christina Stewart at last week's CAN Dance.

So, tell me – think you’ll give it a go?  If so, which braid do you have your eye on?
