Roland MoserRoland Moser knows the way to a Sarasota woman’s heart is exquisite jewelry she won’t see on anyone else in our social city. And for more than 30 years, that’s been the key to McCarver & Moser’s success. “We’ve developed a certain taste and savoir faire,” explains Moser, who grew up near Bern, Switzerland, learned the watch trade, and then pursued a jewelry career in Paris.

“I came to the States, met [the late] Everett McCarver, and we moved to Sarasota on the advice of a friend who wintered here. She said, ‘Get on a plane or buy a bus ticket, but get to Sarasota any way you can. The lifestyle is beautiful and they need a jeweler like you,’” he says.

Moser says his customers are “sophisticated and extensive travelers” who expect “quality and design on par with what they see in the world’s finest stores.” Moser meets their expectations with watches from brands like Patek Philippe and jewelry sourced on his own travels in the U.S., Europe, South America and the Orient.

Best of the Best is the distinction awarded this unique hinged cuff bracelet ($50,000), the first-prize winner at the famed Vicenza jewelry fair in 2011. “We were lucky to get this show stopper. If you wear it to a party, everyone will admire it,” says Moser. The 18K gold masterpiece is crafted of diamond waves with mother-of-pearl inlay.

What this town needs “More direct flights to major cities. People who travel extensively like to have easy access. I have friends who lived in Sarasota and L.A., but moved to Miami because of airline access.”

Can’t live without “My work is my life. I’m happiest working with people to make them happy and meeting new customers.”
