For nearly 50 years this chamber music festival has brought together top students, top faculty and appreciative audiences for concerts featuring works by legends of classical music, plus classes, lectures and more. The Banyan Theater Company opens its season with this 1978 Athol Fugard drama, set in South Africa during the apartheid era, as two longtime friends, one black, one white, struggle with issues of loyalty and their politically active pasts. Love, Loss and What I WoreLove, Loss and What I Wore

This funny/sad collection of tales relating to women’s experiences with their clothes, closets and significant people in their lives takes to the Asolo Rep mainstage June 22 through July 15. Written by sisters Nora and Delia Ephron (and based on a book by Ilene Beckerman). For tickets, call 351-8000.

The summer’s really big sports event gears up, with a packed week of parades, parties, car shows, poker tournaments, bikini contests and, of course, the powerboat race in the Gulf that climaxes it all. Runs from June 23 through July 1 to benefit Suncoast Charities for Children. 371-8820
