Kazu Moves >> Fans of sushi will be happy to know that Kazu (winner of Sarasota Magazine's blind sushi tasting a few years back) has not closed, rather moved to the Gulf Gate area, just across from another favorite sushi spot, Vizen. Look for a cooler vibe, making it more of a night spot. And definitely try the coconut-lemongrass sake. 6566 Gateway Ave., (941) 922-5459.

Entering Yummy House >> I know, it's impossible to get in. So follow the Judi Gallagher guide to success.

Get there at 11:15 a.m.

Avoid 12:45-1:15 p.m.; they are completely packed.

Go in person instead of calling for a reservation; they almost never answer their phone—too busy.

Best dim sum offerings: clams with black bean sauce, chive dumplings, steamed pork buns or barbecue pork buns, Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce.

Make your Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve reservations about three months in advance.

Look for patio dining coming this summer.

Call me and I will join you—finally a good Chinese restaurant in Sarasota!

Yummy House, 3232 N. Tamiami Trail, (941) 351-1688

Upswing on University >> University and Cooper Creek Boulevard are as busy as any major city center these days. New additions include Valentino's, serving my fave frittata "egg sandwich" with potatoes, bell peppers, sausage, pepperoni, hot cherry peppers, onions and mushrooms, along with pizza knot rolls brushed with garlic (no one can eat just one). There's also a rumor that a Sarasota Greek restaurant is about to expand out there as well.

Cosimo's Reopens >> Cosimo's is finally back at its new location just off Clark Road (formerly a Pinchers), and oh, how we missed the Ganleys' award-winnig pizzas and abundant fresh salads. You can enjoy alfresco dining on the covered patio. The interior is similar to a loft space, and the energy rises as the pizzas, pastas and pork chops are served.
