American Legion War Memorial (ca 1928). Designed by Clare C. Hosmer, the American Legion War Memorial was built at the center of Five Points to commemorate Sarasota men who were active in the war. A parade that snaked through downtown was held in honor of the event. However, in 1954 the monument was moved down Main Street to the Bay Front Park because it had been declared a traffic hazard by the fire department. -- Chelsey Lucas
