As a beautiful resort destination that attracts discerning residents and visitors, Sarasota is a small city with big amenities, including a collection of luxury stores and boutiques that can hold its own with many chic urban centers. From high-fashion department stores to well-edited boutiques, the region offers sophisticated shoppers everything they need for our celebrated coastal lifestyle. As chroniclers of that lifestyle, we report on luxury shopping all year long. But in this Platinum annual, we go farther. Every year, our style and fashion editors choose the region’s 100 best luxury retailers, and present this carefully curated list--the Platinum 100--to you to use as a year-round resource. Each store is vetted, both for its product line and the shopping experience itself, from the environment to the sales staff and service ethic.

Retail is a landscape in motion, and every year’s list is different, as long-running establishments may close their doors or change their mission, while enterprising young newcomers add fresh style and discoveries to the city. Our editors report that compiling this year’s list was especially challenging, as a recovering economy encouraged expansions and openings, enlarging the competitive field. We congratulate the stores who earned a place on the final 100—Sarasota’s own black book of luxury shopping—and encourage you to explore these pages and in the stores themselves, to discover just how exceptional Sarasota shopping has become.
