Kem Lindsay knows how to style a woman. For more than 16 years, she’s helmed a booming agency, located in Sarasota, within the luxury Worth New York brand. And since she has her finger unerringly on the pulse of what’s trending, Kem has been invited to the sit on the company’s creative design team and even flown to Europe for a tour of the exclusive textile mill where it sources fabrics. Not only the same mill where Chanel buys, but the very same room.
Recently, I was invited to tour the Worth New York HQ in New York City. I was incredibly skeptical that it could win me over. Honestly, my first thought was that it just wasn't for me. But I was entirely wrong. So much so that you’ll see me in the leopard trench (below) this winter! I love this line--it’s so well-curated and thoughtfully designed; the details are impeccable. I’m now a major fan.
If you’re new to the Worth New York name, it’s for the polished femme who wants modern style, on trend but not trendy, that can easily go from desk to dinner. You'll find two lines within the company – one is Worth New York and the other is W by Worth, the latter the company's masstige line, which is a lower price point. And with Kem you get a personal stylist via a one-on-one appointment in the privacy of her gorgeous home. She even offers her clients a wardrobe overhaul (you know the ones where you keep, purge, donate…) as a free service. Plus, after years of dancing professionally in New York and Chicago, as well as her personal training, she knows how a body moves and what size, shape, color, length, etc. makes a woman look her best.
The collection is sold exclusively through trunk shows, but you’re in luck: Kem is now scheduling appointments in her Sarasota home for both lines (Worth New York: September 9-23; W by Worth: September 9-17). I vote you make an appointment while she has both lines in town. Contact her by email firstname.lastname@example.org or on Facebook.
But first, here’s more from Kem on Worth New York….
What makes shopping via trunk show so unique?
You get to see the complete collection, the designer’s vision. When shopping at a store the retailers are limited to the amount they can buy of any one designer, due to the variety needed in their stores. Having all the components as well as accessories via a trunk show, you can build multiple pieces that coordinate. It is an easy way to maximize your wardrobe for the best value.
And, you have the luxury of a stylist that gets to know you. I pull looks together before my clients even arrive. Also, I keep track of all your purchases so I’m able to coordinate future seasons with past. There is no wandering aimlessly through a store looking for an outfit and feeling overwhelmed. You develop a trust and relationship with your stylist to develop the look you want to project out in the world.
What do you love about working with Worth New York and W by Worth collections?
Working as a styling professional for Worth New York and W by Worth has been empowering and gratifying. The company itself has such integrity, and vision, and is constantly growing and evolving. Worth New York’s dedication and passion for modern style and luxury, has kept me with the company for sixteen years. The relationships that I have developed with my clients and other amazing women of Worth, has been such a gift.
When working with a new, or existing client it never gets old seeing their excitement. A new look or image can help facilitate confidence in their workplace or home. Being lucky enough to sell both lines, I am able to style something for everyone. When all the clothes are in and set up it makes all my creative juices flow. It’s like creating a painting; you have your client and their needs, and wants, and begin creating looks that completely enhance them. I never knew what fun and joy I would get from helping women with there wardrobes. It runs so much deeper than just clothes. The icing on the cake is being able to have them in your home and create a warm and nurturing environment.
The fabrics are undeniably luxe – where are they sourced?
Worth New York has always held themselves to a higher standard for amazing fine fabrics. I would have to say that it’s what they are known for. Our clients have come to expect it. During the recession many designers sacrificed their fabrics and quality to meet the demands of the economy. Worth NY stood strong to their commitment to luxe fabrics and high quality. We source from the mill Botto Giuseppe, the same as Chanel, with a much better price point.
I was surprised to learn about the accessories line as well -- what’s a must-have piece?
Worth’s accessories are to die for. Their belts are statements all on there own. We have such unique styling, and hardware that is used. I have clients that will come just for scarves and belts. As we know, accessories are what make or break a look. Our belts can also look like a unique piece of jewelry around the waist or hips. In this winter collection we have fun black feather bead bracelet cuffs that will look great with a sweater or simple dress. Our handbags are also very unique. I adore the small leopard wristlet, looks amazing with black and brown and winter white, a great way to add a touch of animal to your look.
Contact me by email email@example.com or find me on Facebook. Also, if you can’t make it to a show, I can work with you online. It's another easy and fun way to shop: I can put looks together and we can be online together mixing and matching looks. So many options made easy for the customer and she never has to leave her home.
