Friends of Michael and Terri Klauber of Michael’s on East know the duo’s love of safari in South Africa and their passion for one place in particular: the Londolozi Game Reserve. While they have traveled with the Gulf Coast Connoisseur Club on several occasions, their most recent trip this last summer sparked an opportunity to bring South Africa to Sarasota.

On Thursday, November 7, from 6-8 p.m. Sarasotans are invited to join Londolozi Game Reserve executive chef Anna Ridgewell for a South African wine tasting to support the All Heart Fund of the Good Work Foundation, a nonprofit stationed in South Africa that strives to bring digital-age literacy education and leadership training to people in rural communities there. This newly-created fund was instituted by Steve and Beth Knopik in honor of their daughter, Leanna, who passed away in 2012 at the age of 16 from a rare heart disease, not long after traveling with her family on one of the Connoisseur Clubs trips to Londolozi. The program provides students with the opportunity to travel to larger communities to connect with real-life businesses for unique educational and leadership experiences. One student who demonstrates exceptional “heart” receives the annual Leanna Knopik Cup in recognition of their leadership and compassion.

At the tasting, guests will have the opportunity to taste dozens of South African wines, including great values and top selections from Boekenhoutskloof, Ernie Els, Guardian Peak, Graham Beck Wines, Groot Constantia, Hamilton Russell, Neil Ellis, Rustenberg, Rust en Verde, Spie Route and Stark-Conde. During the tasting, Chef Anna Ridgwell (above) will welcome guests with a selection of hors d'oeuvres from Londolozi as she prepares a signature dish. Tickets can be purchased through Michael’s on East Marketing Director Jamie Jalwan at 941-366-0007 (ext. 229) or via email at [email protected]. Admission to the tasting is $25 per person and each attendee will receive $25 off retail purchases of $100 or more during the event. Space is limited and reservations are required.

Additionally, Michael's On East will be offering a Londolozi Epicurean Adventure with special menus for diners to choose from throughout the course of November.
