Herzog explores botanical forms, the lack of interaction between man and nature and the ‘artificialization’ of nature. His sculptures address organization and the chaotic

nature inherent in natural and man-made forms. His work raises an awareness of objects and ideas that permeate culture. As a child Herzog devoured biographies of

inventors, explorers and scientists. Herzog states, “My fascination was less about their accomplishments and more an appreciation for their determination - their willingness to take chances - to risk their lives. This provided a glimpse into the possibilities in the world – that anything could be accomplished if you had the determination, drive and

belief in yourself.” Richard Herzog is Assistant Professor of Sculpture at New College of Florida in Sarasota.
