ARTHROSCOPIC SHOULDER SURGERY - by Dr. Christopher Sforzo and Dr. Christopher Dillingham
Arthroscopy is the ability for experienced surgeons to treat joint problems through small incisions using state-of-the-art instruments and techniques. Smaller incisions mean less tissue damage, quicker healing and faster recovery. Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive but powerful surgical approach allowing specialists to help people in a variety of ways.
“If you are experiencing shoulder pain, shoulder arthroscopy may be a solution.”
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR SHOULDER ARTHROSCOPY?
If you are experiencing shoulder pain, shoulder arthroscopy may be a solution. Every patient is different, and thus the decision to have an arthroscopic shoulder procedure should only be considered after a consultation and thorough discussion with your qualified treating physician.
WHAT PROBLEMS DO YOU TREAT WITH SHOULDER ARTHROSCOPY?
Arthroscopic shoulder surgery is used to treat a variety of shoulder ailments, which include problems with the rotator cuff, bursitis, shoulder instability or labral tears, superior labral tears or SLAP tears, frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis, removal of loose bodies, as well as injury to or arthritis of the acromioclavicular (AC) joint.
AM I TOO OLD FOR ARTHROSCOPIC SHOULDER SURGERY?
This is a common question. Our answer is often, “It depends.” Age is not a major determining factor in the decision to have any surgery—this is often determined upon activity level, quality of life, overall cardiovascular health and if you have failed a course of non-operative treatment. Every patient is different; at Florida Orthopedic Specialists, we tailor your care to you, the patient. After a consultation and discussion, we make those decisions together.
ABOUT Specialties include non-surgical and surgical treatments for the shoulder, hand, elbow, knee and hip, including tendonitis, arthritis, bursitis, joint replacement, and rotator cuff repair.
