What’s new in the bridal industry this season? We asked Nicole Mei and Fondren Watts, owners of Sarasota’s Blush Bridal, to share the top wedding gown trends they saw when they attended Bridal Fashion Week in New York earlier this fall. Here’s their list of what’s white-hot right now.

3D Floral Embellishments

Floral appliqués have been a standard in bridal fashion for years, but this season 3D embellishments were seen in practically every designer's showroom. They bring a sense of modernity, whimsy and added texture and dimension to any gown.

Illusion Necklines

Illusion necklines allow the bride to maintain her femininity while also discreetly showing a bit of skin. This season, designers embellished their illusion fabrics with beads, crystal and lace, making them look as though the embellishments were applied directly on the bride's skin. Stunning!

Sheer Designs

Designers continue to push the boundaries of what is considered "wedding appropriate" with sheer designs—specifically sheer skirts that show a little leg. Bold brides will appreciate this departure from tradition; more modest ones can opt to have the gown lined.

Watteau Veils

This is a trend a bride will either love or hate—there’s no “in between.” A watteau veil attaches at the top of a wedding gown and extends the length of the dress or beyond. It creates a dramatic wedding-day look.

Ballgowns

Ball gowns are back in a big way. While figure-hugging silhouettes are still a staple in today's bridal world, the classic ball gown reemerged this season as a designer favorite. Whether it was cascading tulle or a billowing silk mikado skirt, designers took a page out of classic fairytales with romantic, timeless pieces.

Party Dresses

The fun, flirty LWD—or little white dress—had its moment of glory this season. They’re perfect for a courthouse wedding, a second marriage, a rehearsal dinner or a bridal shower. And because they’re great for dancing the night away, they’re also ideal for a reception gown!
