One of the prettiest neighborhoods in Sarasota, Burns Court is filled with historic homes, cafes and a bevy of boutiques that carry something for every kind of shopper, from organic skincare to antiques to high-end designer fashion.

“I fell in love with the area when I came to visit my brother,” recalls LeeAnn Swor, owner of L. Boutique and L. Spa. “And in four days, I found a store, a house, a babysitter and a manager.” Her store carries brands like Ella Moss, Trina Turk and Milly; next door at the spa, shoppers can indulge in manicures, pedicures, facial treatments, massages and more. “In the future, I hope we can keep building on what we do,” Swor says.

L.Boutique is flanked by shops like Betty Graulisch’s Philosophy & Vines, a clothing store; 530 Burns Gallery, run by mother-daughter duo Nikki Sedacca and Montana Taplinger; and Treat Boutique, an accessories shop run by owner Nicole Pepe-Dorn and (her mastiff mascot Zaida). Across the street, there’s Clever Rose, a clothing store owned by Rosemary Angeleri; PH Botanicals, which sells organic skincare by owner Elizabeth Pickett Gray; and Karen Roth’s eponymous boutique, which sells resortwear designed by Roth herself. Up the street, there’s Awesome Orchids, a plant store and gift shop co-owned by sisters Martha Storey and Eva Howes; Anne Folsom Smith Interiors; and Nancy Krohngold’s popular Nancy’s Bar-B-Q. And don’t forget consignment mecca The Woman’s Exchange, run by executive director/CEO Karen Koblenz; and Lena Schlabach’s country-chic Farmhouse Frocks, among others.

The community is tight-knit, says Clever Rose’s Angeleri. “Every single day I get customers in my store who have been sent to me by L. Boutique or by Philosophy & Vines or another Burns Court merchant. We all try to work together.”

Burns Court is located in downtown Sarasota, south of Ringling Boulevard. For more information, visit burnssquare.org.
