Long known for beaches and culture, Sarasota is also gaining a reputation for world-class sporting events, including the enormous World Rowing Championships that will bring athletes and fans from around the world to Nathan Benderson Park in September. But the park hosts competitions all year round, including June’s U.S. Rowing Youth National Championships, where illustrator John Pirman, standing on a small overpass bridge above the finish line, captured this view of the junior crew of San Diego Rowing Club stroking their way to victory.
