The all-cash deal is the highest residential real estate sale ever recorded in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties, by a buck.

A very private Gulf-front estate on north Longboat Key just sold in an all-cash deal for $13,000,0001—a record price for residential real estate sales sold through the MLS in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties—shattering the previous record by exactly $1.

The 7,000-plus-square-foot, four-bedroom home at 6021 Gulf of Mexico Drive has numerous luxury amenities and is set on a walking beach, which was very important to the buyers, says Kim Ogilvie of Michael Saunders & Company, who represented them. It had been listed for sale at $13,950,000 in October by Reid Murphy of Developers Realty.

Ogilvie was the realtor with the last record-breaking sale, a Gulf-front estate on Westway Drive in Lido Shores that sold in 2006 for $13 million. When her Longboat Key clients discovered that, they were happy to offer the additional dollar. And, “I’m happy to break my own record,” Ogilvie told us.

Murphy is also no stranger to big sales. Last August, he teamed with The Ackerman Group of Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate to sell Ohana, the Guy Peterson-designed Polynesian-influenced Longboat Key Gulf-front estate, for $11.4 million. At the time, it was the largest ever single-family home sale on the north end of the island. And in 2011, he sold the Gulf-front estate at 825 Regent Court in the Longboat Key Club for $12.5 million, at the time the highest residential sale ever recorded on Longboat Key.

Ogilvie has a confidentiality agreement with the buyers and can’t reveal anything about them, except that they wanted beachfront, privacy and proximity to amenities like the restaurants that have popped up on north Longboat Key.

“This is perhaps the finest combination of location and construction I’ve seen in my 36 years as a Realtor,” she said in a statement. “The home features a beautiful and tasteful selection of finishes, and the new owners are very much looking forward to sharing it with their family and friends throughout the year.”

Despite the pandemic, she says she is getting lots of calls from buyers looking to relocate from New York and Connecticut. Lately, most of her calls have been coming from Cincinnati and Cleveland, Ohio. Her listing on 6629 Peacock Road on Siesta Key, listed at $7,495,000, is under contract, and so is her listing at 1221 Hillview Drive in Harbor Acres.

“At the quality upper-end, anything over $2 million, we have very little inventory,” says Ogilvie. “Especially walking beachfront, that’s the No. 1 request.”
