Florida Studio Theatre has announced that it now plans to open its 2020-21 winter season after the New Year. The theater’s winter mainstage and cabaret seasons normally open in November and September, respectively, but concern about safety and health during the coronavirus pandemic is the reason behind the push to a later date—a choice that will most likely be followed by other performing arts organizations in the coming weeks as well.

“We took our time with this decision because we care,” said FST’s producing artistic director, Richard Hopkins, in a release announcing the postponement. “The safety of our artists, staff and audience is paramount.”

The full lineup of winter season productions is now set to be announced in November, and FST will operate within full compliance of all CDC guidelines. A streaming option will also be available.

In the meantime, FST continues works on projects to enhance the theater-going experience, including refurbishing its five theaters, updating sound and lighting systems, and doing a kitchen renovation in the Goldstein Cabaret.
