Dr. Sarah H. Pappas, Philanthropist & Resident

Sarah Pappas has dedicated more than 44 years to Public Higher Education, including eleven years as president of the State College of Florida. She has served on numerous boards, such as The Ringling Museum of Art and the Sarasota Chamber.

Introduced to Plymouth Harbor by Dr. Peggy Bates, a former New College professor, over 35 years ago, Sarah knew she would eventually live at Sarasota’s premier Life Plan Community. Upon retiring from the presidency of the Selby Foundation, Sarah chose to continue her philanthropic passions from her new home.

At Plymouth Harbor, Sarah discovered the life she always envisioned, free from the day-to-day chores of home ownership. As she says, “Life doesn’t stop when you move to Plymouth Harbor.” She found a group of like-minded men and women who embrace life and each other, remaining involved in the community by serving on boards, sharing experiences, volunteering, and continuing philanthropic endeavors.

Sarah’s involvement with The Innocence Project of Florida began ten years ago after attending a reception hosted by prominent attorney John Patterson. There, she heard the harrowing story of an exoneree wrongfully convicted and imprisoned for 22 years, sparking her commitment to the cause.

As the years have passed, Sarah’s philanthropic commitment to the Innocence Project has grown, culminating in the establishment of a $500,000 Challenge grant commitment.
