Louie Milonas inside the future Louie's and Katz Sweet Spot

Five-O Donut Co isn't the only new doughnut shop coming to downtown Sarasota. Louie's and Katz Sweet Spot is slated to open next month in the space that used to house the much-missed Flour Parlor. The shop is helmed by first-time food entrepreneurs Louie Milonas and his wife, Kathy Rodas, who are planning to serve a pick of cake doughnuts, brownies and cookies, plus coffee, sodas and juices.

Milonas, 44, was born in New Hampshire, but grew up in Greece and learned to cook from his uncles and father. He first visited Sarasota because his grandfather bought a home on Anna Maria Island in the '80s. After a career with a vending company and as a cell phone technician, he and Rodas moved to Sarasota to open up the Sweet Spot. "I've always wanted to have something of my own," Milonas says.

Milonas' brother-in-law, who owns a burger restaurant chain, is helping the couple get started, as is another pastry chef. The menu will include a mix of dough flavorings and toppings, with a lean toward organic and non-GMO. "I'm trying to keep it as healthy as possible," Milonas says. But: "I know it's still a doughnut," he adds with a laugh.

The basic Flour Parlor footprint is still in place, although counters are shifting. Before they can get up and running, Milonas and Rodas are waiting for a new enclosed kitchen hood, which should arrive early next month. After that begins their testing process, and then eventually we get to eat them, too.

Louie's and Latz Sweet Spot will be located at 128 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota.

Correction: A previous version of this article referred to the new doughnut shop as Donut Stop. The correct name is Louie's and Katz Sweet Spot.
