Fourth of July Cookout and Picnic Spending Will Top $6.9 Billion

That’s down from last year’s estimated $7.1 billion in spending, according to new survey results.

Americans plan to spend a total of $6.9 billion on food for Fourth of July cookouts and picnics next week, according to new survey results published by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insight & Analytics. That’s down from last year’s record estimated spending of $7.1 billion. According to the survey, more than 216 million Americans plan to celebrate on the Fourth, down from last year’s 219 million estimate. Nearly 153 million Americans are planning a cookout or picnic and plan to spend an average of $75.35 per person.
