The restaurant Amore closed the doors on its Burns Court location last summer, but, starting next week, the eatery's fans have a new setting in which to enjoy its Portuguese and Italian fare. The restaurant will reopen to the public next Monday, Jan. 11, at 180 N. Lime Ave., Sarasota.

Last year's closure was forced by the Covid-19 pandemic. Early in the crisis, owners Tito and Liana Vitorino began selling takeout via an impromptu drive-through setup, but they struggled to stay open.

Coming with the Vitorinos to the new location is Amore's cataplana, a word that refers to one of Portugal's most famous dishes, as well as the cookware used to make it. A cataplana is an enormous copper and stainless steel vessel that is locked shut and heated over a flame.

Amore’s enormous seafood cataplana is made with lobster, squid, scallops, shrimp and vegetables in a luscious broth, and the restaurant also offers one made with pork and clams. The restaurant also makes a handful of dishes that feature bacalhau, Portuguese salt cod, plus a number of Italian pastas and entrées.

The new Amore is located at 180 N. Lime Ave., Sarasota. For more info, call (941) 383-1111 or visit the restaurant's website.
