From tree to table

For decades, Floridians and Sunshine State tourists shipped boxes of citrus north to friends and family. This week, a company from Michigan is returning the favor, packing up boxes of fresh Michigan apples and dropping them off at 90 locations around the South. The Apple Truck, as it's known, will hit Ellenton and then Sarasota on Friday, Nov. 12, and then Venice on Saturday, Nov 13.

The Apple Truck is currently accepting preorders for local pickup. The apples are sold in 20-pound boxes; half of them are sweet, and the other half are tart. You can also buy cider made from honeycrisp apples. If apples remain after preorders are filled, you can buy them directly from the truck.

The Apple Truck will appear at Ellenton Premium Outlets, 5461 Factory Shops Blvd., Ellenton, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12; at The Mall at University Town Center, 140 University Town Center Drive, Sarasota, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12; and at Venice Plaza, 440-480 U.S. 41 Bypass N., Venice, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13.
