Asolo Rep: Hair

Nov. 17 (previews) through Jan. 1

Are you ready to let some sun shine in? Asolo Rep is, reopening its doors for an in-theater, in-person production of this 1960s rock musical packed with songs like “Aquarius,” “Easy to Be Hard” and “Good Morning Starshine.” And oh, yes, there is that brief nudity, meaning the show is recommended for ages 16 and above. Siesta Key Crystal Classic

Nov. 12-15

The international sand sculpting festival that draws thousands to our shores is back! After last year’s cancellation due to Covid-19, the Siesta Key Chamber once again presents the fest where sculptors create masterpieces in just 24 hours across four days. Of course, there’s also live music, a village of shopping and food and drink vendors, an amateur sculpting contest and more. Find out about all the fun at siestakeycrystalclassic.com.

Sarasota MOD Weekend

Nov. 12-14

Celebrate the life and work of Philip Hanson Hiss, whose impact on the architecture and design of our public schools, unique homes on Lido Shores, and the inception of New College is the focus of this year's MOD event, presented by Architecture Sarasota. A symposium, kayak tours of classic homes, receptions and an exhibit are all part of the mix. Learn more at sarasotamod.org.  

Straight No Chaser

The a cappella group, comprised of nine male vocalists, comes to the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall with its “Back in the High Life” tour, marking a return to in-person shows that were halted earlier due to the pandemic. Florida Studio Theatre: Friends in Low Places

FST opens this brand-new cabaret show celebrating the music of contemporary country artists like Garth Brooks, Miranda Lambert and George Strait, in the Goldstein Cabaret. Cortez Stone Crab & Music Festival

Nov. 13-14

Florida Countryfest

Nov. 12-14

This second annual event, at J.D. Hamel Park on Bayfront Drive in Sarasota, offers three days of live country music, from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free; food, drinks, crafts and a kid zone are on site as well. Among the bands performing: Soul Circus Cowboys, Craig Campbell Unplugged, Cadillac Blue and more. St. Armands Circle Fall Art Festival

Nov. 13 and 14

Another fest, this one with an emphasis on arts and crafts in a wide range of media. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day on the shopping circle; check it out at starmandscircleassoc.com/events.

Hermitage at The Bay

Nov. 18

This program, a presentation of the Hermitage Artist Retreat and The Bay Park, is actually set for 5 p.m. next Thursday, but it’s best to plan a little ahead. Two Hermitage Fellows, composer Jared Miller and visual artist Iva Gueorguieva, will share their latest work in “Sound and Color,” at 5 p.m. at The Bay’s Civic Green, 801 N.
