What I Wear to Work: John Day of Rooks Advertising
You wouldn’t know by looking at him, but this creative chap speaks with a charming English accent, and his definitive fashion sense packs a precise and powerful punch.
WHO: London native John Day, 25, creative director at Lakewood-Ranch based Rooks Advertising
WHAT I DO: I got my degree in environmental science from Florida State University, but I did graphic design and did some freelance work through school.
Today, I meet with clients like the Meadows Country Club and talk about their creative needs. As a team we strategize the marketing for a client – whether it's monthly or a one-time plan to see what mediums best fit their requests. We do everything from websites, videography, social media and all kinds of advertising.
MY STYLE: I would say my style is unique and has a high-quality European flair.
I look for things that not everyone owns. I try to stand out from the norm. And I never wear socks except with sneakers. It’s just a personal style choice.
HOW HAS YOUR STYLE EVOLVED? It’s changed so much. I was a disaster in high school. I wore Dickies that you had to pull up every 15 seconds then I went through a preppy phase. In my early 20s, I started dressing to fit my personality. Now, I think I’ve finally figured it out.
FAVORITE DESIGNERS: Northskull, Cole Haan shoes, ASOS, MVMT watches, Aldo, Topman, ZARA, Tom Ford and Ted Baker (most favorite).
MY GO-TO ITEMS: Always a watch and a blazer or jacket.
FAVORITE ITEM I OWN: A brown leather weekend bag by Sandast I got from Refinery. The interior of the bag is plaid and has metal hardware. I also have a matching bison leather toiletry bag to go inside it.
FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN: I would wear something similar to what I’m wearing now – a long-sleeve button down with the sleeves rolled up, navy or khaki pants and fun shoes.
John is wearing a camouflage blazer and gold lapel pin from ASOS, shoes from Aldo, MVMT watch, Ted Baker belt, Topman chambray button-down shirt and khakis, Shwood sunglasses from Shore and Northskull bracelet. Tattoos were inked at Oddity by Kim Albers.
